Malibu has always been a sought after location for weddings. One of the newest venues in Malibu is Malibu Rocky Oaks. This property is absolutely breathtaking, and known for it’s panoramic views and rustic luxury. Recently one of our valued wedding planning firms, At Your Door Events turned to us for a seafood menu at this exciting venue. At Your Door planner Jenny Goodman’s client wanted a foodie menu with seafood as the star of the show. Event Producer Veronica Medrano worked with this dynamic duo and their client not only to create their dream menu, but to display it in a way that would wow their clients to the n’th degree.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First enjoy the images of the couple and their picturesque ceremony overlooking the rugged valley, captured by Kristina Lee Photography. This property is truly spectacular for it’s privacy, and the stone estate that serves as a rustic and romantic reception space. It may be situated in Malibu, but once there, you feel transported to a European vineyard estate.
No detail was forgotten for this luxurious wedding. From vintage style rentals, stunning florals, and a mouth watering dessert buffet by Kim White of The Sugar Philosophers. But our favorite part of this wedding was the cuisine. Veronica worked closely with our chefs to curate a seafood station that was not only delicious, but also a feast for the eyes.
Our seafood display included Crab Legs, Blue Point Oysters, Mussels, and Shrimp, accompanied by fresh Lemon and Lime wedges, Cocktail Sauce, Tartar Sauce and Portuguese Sauce. This bountiful seafood station was enjoyed during cocktail hour along with tray passed appetizers that included:
Crisp Endive Spears filled with Goat Cheese, Figs, Pecans, and garnished with Dried Cranberries; Mango Cevice Tostadas of Mango, Avocado, Bell Peppers, Jalapenos, and Citrus Juices; Thin Sliced Filet with Arugula, Provolone & White Truffle Oil, served on a Toasted Baguette with Horseradish Cream Sauce; Tandoori Chicken Skewers with Cucumber Dip.
As if this spread on it’s own wasn’t impressive enough, Lily and Sergio’s 75 guests were treated to a sit down dinner that included a surf and turf duo option.This couple showed their love of their friends and family through their senses of touch, smell and taste. For foodie couples who are looking for a wedding dinner that feels like a 5-Star dining experience, this menu sets the bar very high.
Our sit down dinner service began with an Arugula and Bibb Lettuce Salad with Red Anjou Pear slices Pancetta, Bleu Cheese Crumbles, Candied Pecans, drizzled with Meyer Lemon Vinaigrette. This was followed with a visually stunning and delicious “Polvo a Lagareiro”, which translates to Octopus with Roasted Potato and Olive Oil. This is a traditional Portuguese specialty, and served as a small starter. It was of dire importance to the couple that this dish was authentic, as 25 of the guests flew in from Portugal . Our chefs delighted in stretching their culinary legs in preparing this regional favorite and we nailed it!. The main entree was a masterful duo plate of Lobster Tail with Drawn Butter and Char-Grilled Filet Mignon. Based on the comments we heard from the diners, the entire menu was a huge hit!
Dancing went long into the night and concluded with a late night snack of Pulled Pork Sliders. Working with this couple was a dream for us. They combined their love for each other and their love of fine cuisine in a way that made their wedding an experience their guests will never forget. Besides our affection for them, we wish to thank a team of vendor partners that made this day truly memorable.
